Handel's Jephtha (Concertante): Komische Oper Berlin

About the Event

Contemplate the meaning of love, and sacrifice, as Richard Jones stages Handel's last oratorio. A cast of Baroque specialists join acclaimed early music expert Christian Curnyn at Berlin's Komische Oper for this musical gem.

The story of a hard‐pressed King who vows to sacrifice the first living creature he encounters in return for divine intervention is a common theme in the mythology of numerous religious traditions. Handel's setting of this epidsode from the Tanach was to be his last oratorio, and featured three of the greatest stars of the age at its premiere. The Komische Oper has assembled a spectacular team for this rare staged performance of the work.
