Contrasting quartets by Beethoven and Bartók open this concert, the first elegant and Haydn‐esque, the second bubbling with the rhythms and harmonies of Hungarian folk music. Celebrated pianist Kirill Gerstein then joins the Quartet for the intense drama of Brahms' Piano Quintet, with its stormy opening and closing movements, and tenderly lyrical Andante.
