Gran Festival Flamenco, Vivir Flamenco: Palau de la Música Catalana
About the Event
Discover the history of the gypsy in Spain through the majestic and flamboyant art of flamenco. Barcelona's breathtaking Palau de la Música provides a stunning architectural backdrop for a performance that will open your eyes to the grand tradition that fuses dance, song, and instrumental music into a compelling narrative.
Bringing together several of the most important names in flamenco, the show traces the journey of two of the art's most famous families — the Farruco and the Amaya — from the Rhone valley to Spain in the 15th Century. Under the dark clouds of religious persecution and suspicion of the gypsy way of life, a gradual integration into Andalusian culture consolidated the enduring and idiosyncratic identity of flamenco. Incorporating diverse musical and cultural influences into a single, coherent dramatic and musical form, Flamenco demonstrates the power of art to unify and inspire.
