Gran Festival Flamenco de Barcelona: Carmen, Carmen, Carmen

About the Event

With the show 'Carmen, Carmen, Carmen', Tablao Flamenco Cordobes de Barcelona pays tribute to one of the most groundbreaking personalities of flamenco dance, Carmen Amaya.

This gypsy, born in the emigrant and gypsy neighbourhood of Somorrostro in Barcelona, daughter of a dancer and a guitarist ('la Faraona' and 'el Chino'), took her professional career from the taverns of Barcelona's seaside bars to President Roosevelt's White House.
Iconoclast, self‐taught, cantaora, breaker of all moulds… her dancing is, as we say, a metaphor for rebelliousness, with an electrifying rhythm and ethic with which she was ahead of her time in all aspects, including her wardrobe, being one of the first dancers to wear trousers.
Carmen Amaya is an inapprehensible model from an academic point of view and does not fit into a single model, which is why our show offers three versions of her varied aesthetic profile and even a version of her incursions as a cantaora.
Versions by prestigious young dancers who drink from this source of history: Karime Amaya (Carmen Amaya's grand‐niece), Susana Casas and Sara Barrero.
