Gidon Kremer Trio at the Dresden Music Festival: Beethoven & Weinberg

About the Event

The Latvian violinist Gidon Kremer is undoubtedly one of the legends on his instrument and embodies like no other musician a consistent artistic attitude. In the course of his fifty‐year career, the violinist has become a committed advocate of Russian and East European composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. One of these is Mieczysław Weinberg, who celebrated his 100th birthday in 2019 and was already praised by Shostakovich as one of the greatest composers of his time. Kremer's concert with his trio in the Palais im Großen Garten is a sounding plea for Weinberg's music. Beethoven appeared in 1814, already completely deafened, as a pianist for the Piano Trio op. 97, which was dedicated to the performance of Archduke Rudolf of Austria.
