Fromental Halévy's La Reine de Chypre: Théâtre des Champs‐Elysées
About the Event
Hear Fromental Halévy's rarely performed opera, "La Reine de Chypre", in a concert version with Véronique Gens and Marc Laho in the starring roles, under the direction of Hervé Niquet.
While "La Reine de Chypre" is not well known today, it was a tremendous success on its premiere in 1841 in Paris. Set in 15th century Venice, this beautiful opera, full of refined music and varied melodies, also has a taste of Antique tragedy, ending at the throne of Cyprus.
