Festival opening: 'Fidelio' at Schloss Grafenegg

About the Event

Experience classical music like never before in this astonishing performance of Beethoven's masterwork with Jonas Kaufmann at the remarkable Schloss Grafenegg.

As a musical plea for freedom and loyalty, Beethoven's 'Fidelio' is a gripping demonstration that it is worthwhile to uphold and defend the basic values of human coexistence. At the centre of this outstanding co‐production of the Gstaad Menuhin Festival and the Grafenegg Festival are Jonas Kaufmann as Florestan and Anja Kampe as Leonore. Jaap van Zweden, principal conductor of the New York Philharmonic since 2018, leads the orchestra of the renowned Swiss festival at the Wolkenturm.

Schloss Grafenegg

For more than 30 years, Schloss Grafenegg has been a setting for events in a truly unique atmosphere. Its cultural programme attracts thousands of visitors every year, and Advent in Grafenegg has become a Lower Austrian institution. Building on this history, the Schloss Grafenegg estate is combined with one of the most ambitious cultural projects in Austria: an open‐air stage and a new concert hall should provide the necessary space for Schloss Grafenegg to establish itself as a unique cultural centre at an international level.
