Ensemble Artaserse & Philippe Jaroussky: Italian Baroque

About the Event

The countertenor Philippe Jaroussky performs with his own ensemble Artaserse in the Konzerthaus and takes you to Venice in the middle of the 17th century.

Francesco Cavalli (1602‐1676) was the most successful opera composer of the generation after Monteverdi. In his approximately 30 operas there are many stunningly beautiful arias, which are a delight for both audience and performers. Together with the librettist Giovanni Faustini, Cavalli further developed the public opera business in the lagoon city and established a smaller orchestration.
