Dvořák's Violin Concerto and Brahms' Symphony No. 2: Concertgebouw Amsterdam

About the Event

Brahms struggled for more than fourteen years with his First Symphony. In contrast, he wrote his Second Symphony in one summer holiday. Brahms' self‐confidence and sunny moods are audible from the very first notes. Of course Brahms' special bittersweet signature is not lacking, but of his four symphonies, the Second is the warmest, mildest and most positive.

With its combination of lyrical violin melodies, rich orchestral sounds and rousing Czech folk music, the violin concert is the highlight of Dvořák's 'Slavic period', full of Slavic dances and cheerful Czech motives.
