Die Perlen der Kleopatra: Komische Oper Berlin

About the Event

Conductor Adam Benzwi and director Barrie Kosky take you on a journey to old Egypt, where things look a lot like Berlin. Oscar Straus' operetta, 'The Pearls of Cleopatra', is a mix of cabaret, jazz, and late Romanticism, a witty satire on the middle class conservatism of the time.

With the Nile running dry and the Roman army on her doorstep, Cleopatra is already busy as it is. In addition, she is in a very bad mood, as all that she wants is a 'little Egyptian flirting.' She finds a willing lover in the Roman ambassador. The secret behind her power and her dominion over men are the pearls of Cleopatra.
