Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande: Théâtre des Champs‐Elysées

About the Event

François‐Xavier Roth conducts Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande, with exceptional soloists in the title roles: baritone Stanislas de Barbeyrac and soprano Patricia Petibon.

Debussy's only completed opera, adapted from Maurice Maeterlinck's symbolist play, tells us the story of a love triangle between the Prince Golaud, his half‐brother Pelléas, and the young and mysterious Mélisande. In the poet's prose, Debussy found the new musical language he was looking for in order to make the characters sing 'naturally'. 'Pelléas et Mélisande' is considered as a landmark of modernism in 20th‐century music.
