Curlew River: Teatro Real

About the Event

Benjamin Britten's 'Curlew River', which he called a 'Parable for Church Performance' premieres at Teatro Real in Netia Jones' extraordinary multi‐media staging, with tenor Ian Bostridge in the starring role.

Next to the Curlew River, the protagonist of Britten's opera lives a live on the margins of society. The Madwoman is in search of her missing child. 'Curlew River' marked Britten's departure from tonal composition. Influenced by Japanese Noh theater, all roles are scored for male singers.

Practical Information

Please note: In some areas of the Teatro Real, some seats have a partially obstructed view of the stage. Teatro Real recommends category B for the finest and completely unobstructed view of the performance.
