Close‐up: Gioacchino Rossini 150

About the Event

Encounter the musicians of the Concertgebouw Orchestra at close quarters, as they commemmorate the 150th anniversary of Rossini's death.

Beginning with the precocious composer's Sonata a Quattro 'The Tempest', composed at a mere twelve years of age, string players from the RCO take center stage with music by Rossini's peers, and admirers. Principal bassist Dominic Seldis plays the central role in Nicolò Paganini's 'Introduction and variations on Rossini's 'Mosè in Egitto' '. Clarinettist Arno Piters joins his colleagues for the similarly‐precocious Giacomo Meyerbeer's E flat major Clarinet Quintet, while Felix Mendelssohn's First String Quartet, composed at the age of ten, concludes a tour of precocious talent.
