Chiaroscuro Quartet

About the Event

The Chiaroscuro Quartet performs music of Mozart and Schubert at the Grand Théâtre of the Dijon Opera.

The string quartet is one of the rare domains today where the revolution of historically informed performance has not yet had a significant impact. Few quartets have made the move towards period instruments and the principles of attack, articulation, rhythm and accentuation that have led other ensembles to explore the classical repertoire with a view to achieving authenticity.

This makes it all the more fascinating to hear the Quartet Chiaroscuro, which has adopted the historically informed performances approach, perform three of the great classics from the literature of the genre. Schubert’s “Rosamunde”’ quartet, contemporary with Die Schone Mullerin, was the only quartet published during his lifetime. With this score full of violence and melancholy, Schubert launched the series of his three last quartets and reached his highest maturity.
