Christmas with Erich Kästner: Walter Sittler & die Sextanten

About the Event

Walter Sittler is certainly one of the most multi‐faceted actors in Germany. No matter whether it's films, television or the theatre stage — Sittler authentically and humorously embodies his roles and wanders safely between the different genres.
For the third time, Walter Sittler is performing under the title 'Christmas with Erich Kästner' in the Philharmonie Berlin. His director has once again accepted the challenge of integrating a wide variety of Kästner's works under the motto 'Christmas with Erich Kästner' and of providing musical variety. An entertaining and stimulating evening is cleverly arranged from essays and tales, Christmas poems and excerpts from Kästner's novels. Melancholic and ironic texts alternate, a typical Kästner melange of humour and objectivity.
The composer Libor Síma has rearranged the most beautiful European Christmas songs for the extraordinary instrumentation of the sextants. And so this 'Christmas‐Special' is a literary‐musical Germany evening about the years 1920 to 1950.
