About the Event

Admire the talented Marina Viotti as she performs the title role of Carmen, in a concert version with the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Rouen Normandie under the direction of Ben Glassberg.

Bizet's 'Carmen' is undoubtedly one of the most popular operas in the world, even though it was not well received on the night of its premiere in 1875. Through the tempestuous and rebellious character of Carmen, Bizet broke many conventions and created a controversial figure, who scandalized many among the first audience. Today, several arias from 'Carmen', such as 'Habanera' or the 'Toreador Song', are among the most popular and the most well‐known in the history of opera.

Sung in French, with French surtitles.
