Brecht's The Threepenny Opera: Théâtre des Champs‐Elysées

About the Event

Visionary stage director Robert Wilson offers his version of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's masterwork, 'Die Dreigroschenoper', with the Berliner Ensemble.

This 'play with music', first performed during the summer of 1928 in Berlin, quickly became a classic of the theater world. It is a cutting criticism of the capitalist world and the corrupt bourgeoisie, with extravagant characters in an impressive staging, mixing theater with opera, music hall, circus, and the energy of jazz music. Robert Wilson's production of this powerful cabaret, with its abstract settings and its neon lights, transforms the stage in a total work of art both beautiful and strange.

Sung in German, with French surtitles.
