Blendulf, Widmann: Korngold's Violin Concerto

About the Event

Let your senses be swayed by the luscious emotional power of Erich Korngold's sumptuously lyrical violin concerto. An acclaimed specialist in contemporary repertoire, violinist Carolin Widmann joins Daniel Blendulf and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic on the platform of the Konserthuset.

Alongside the Korngold concerto, with themes derived in many cases from the film scores with which the Austrian émigré kept Hollywood supplied following his flight from the increasingly perilous European political situation in 1934, Blendulf leads an intriguing program of works that blend elements that might seem antithetical at first glance. César Franck's 'Symphony in D minor' embraces French cyclical form, whilst adopting a very Germanic — even Wagnerian — tone, and award‐winning Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir's 'Aeriality' stands poised on the border between symphony and sound art.
