Beethoven's Symphony No. 3. Ravel & Adams at Concertgebouw + 3 course dinner

About the Event

Pianist Nicholas Angelich is only allowed to use one virtuoso hand in Ravel's Piano Concerto for the left hand. You will also hear Beethoven's compelling, revolutionary Third Symphony.

Beethoven's Third Symphony

With his Third Symphony, Beethoven wrote the soundtrack for the world of the moment. It was the time of the revolution: enormous shifts in power, great ideals and hope for a new world. You will hear the National Orchestra of Belgium in Beethoven's compelling work. That, by the way, was something too revolutionary for his contemporaries. A completely different side of the political power game echoes John Adams in his Dr. Atomic Symphony. This exciting symphony looks ahead to the test of the very first atom bomb.

Nicholas Angelich plays Ravel

The American pianist Nicholas Angelich covers an unprecedentedly broad repertoire. Normally with both hands, but today only with the left. In Ravel's Piano Concerto, Angelich solemnly speaks for the left hand. Great to hear and see, Musicweb wrote. Angelich gracefully takes Ravel's many musical hurdles. The National Orchestra of Belgium is led by Hugh Wolff, and recently he has been the orchestra's chief conductor.
