Jonathan Nott, acclaimed internationally for his interpretations of Mahler's works, conducts the renowned Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester in Mahler's immense Third Symphony — a work that encapsulates the composer's complex technique and personal style.
Barcelona opens its doors to celebrate its unique artistic and cultural heritage in the annual Barcelona Obertura spring festival. Bringing together the city’s three international stages – the internationally‐renowned opera house Gran Teatre del Liceu, the exquisite art nouveau Palau de la Música Catalana, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and L’Auditori, Barcelona’s modern concert hall, acclaimed for its exceptional acoustic – the festival presents some of the greatest names in classical music, underlining Barcelona’s role as the cultural hub of the Mediterranean.

An unusually slow tempo for the 1st movement, and a few playing errors in the brass early on, but improving greatly as the great Mahler 3d developed into what became a thrilling musical experience.

A fantastic evening, made better by the brilliant seat I had, just inches from the stage. I could feel the tension and sheer concentration by the fabulous musicians. A night I won’t ever forget.
