The monastery initially served as a fortress for the Salian Dukes before it was turned into a monastery in the 11th century.
Today the location is used for concert and theatre performances during the summer season.

Parking spaces at the monastery are limited. There is a parking lot about 2 km from the monastery, a path leads up to the monastery.
