The Béjart Ballet celebrates youth with dances to the rhythm of Queen and Mozart.
Maurice Béjart revolutionized dance and made it accessible to an audience that had previously considered it alien. To democratize it and free it from the image of an elitist art form reserved for minorities, Béjart, a brilliant choreographer who aspired to a comprehensive, eclectic and cosmopolitan art, did not hesitate to combine different, seemingly contradictory elements. For example, the music of Mozart with that of Queen. This is what happened with Le Presbytère, which has lost none of its charm and splendor. It was conceived in 1966 as a double tribute to singer Freddie Mercury and Argentine dancer Jorge Donn — principal dancers with the Ballet del Siglo XX and the Béjart Ballet Lausanne — both of whom died of AIDS at the age of 45. Béjart pays tribute to them with a ballet that does not focus on the pain or tragedy of grief, but evokes youth and hope.

Gil Roman, artistic director of Béjart Ballet Lausanne since the death of its founder in 2007, continues to lead the company's repertoire and enriches it with his creations.
