AsianArt Ensemble: focused XXI — traditions

About the Event

Experience the traditions of the world in the flow of time: the string quartet — the epitome of Western classical chamber music — meets the mouth‐blown free reed instrument Sheng, a wind instrument with 3000 years of history.

As far away as these musical cultures are from each other, Western strings harmonize surprisingly well with the Sheng instrument. The composers of the evening are all pioneers in the field of intercultural music and present completely different approaches to the juxtaposition and fusion of musical cultures. Although identity is preserved, everything has changed.

Works by Chan Ka Nin, Il‐Ryun Chung, Huang Ruo, Yukiko Watanabe and others
