Performances and Orchestras conducted
He regularly plays with all the major orchestras and conductors, on top of his activities with OCI as acting soloist and conductor. Furthermore, he has collaborated with the most important European and American orchestras. He has also made his mark on the London Philharmonic as a conductor.
In 1987 Accardo debuted to great acclaim as an orchestra conductor, and soon after was invited to direct, among others, the Rome Opera, The Opera of Monte Carlo, the Lille Opera, the San Carlo Theater in Naples, the Rossini Festival in Pesaro, and numerous concerts and symphonies. In 1992, for the 200th anniversary of Rossini’s birth, Accardo directed the first modern performance in Rome and Pesaro of the official revised version of Rossini’s Messa da Gloria, curated by the Rossini Foundation in Pesaro, and recorded live by Ricordi/Fonit Cetra. He performed the work again in Vienna in 1995 with the Vienna Symphony.

Accardo has performed and recorded the Paganini pieces with Dynamic.
In 1994 Accardo and the OCI released The Complete Works for Violin and Orchestra by Paganini with EMI Classics
In 1997 Salvatore Accardo and the orchestra da Camera Italiana released their first CDs: The Virtuoso Violin in Italy, and Masterpieces for Violin and Strings (1997) with Warner Fonit Records..
They recorded the Concert for the Constitution with Foné, and in 2003 The Complete Works for Violin by Astor Piazzolla in a 3‐CD set.

Other than his recordings with DGG of the Paganini Cappricios and Concertos with Charles Dutoit, Accardo has recorded extensively with Phillips Records, including releases of the Bach Partitas for Solo Violin, the Brahms and Beethoven concertos and the complete works of Max Bruch for Violin and Orchestra with Kurt Masur, the concertos of Čajkovskij, Dvořák, Sibelius with Sir Colin Davis, and the Mendelssohn concerto with Charles Dutoit.
Other recordings were the result of collaborations with labels like ASV, Dynamics, EMI, Sony Classical, Collins Classic and Foné.
With Foné, Accardo recorded the complete Brahms Sonatas for violin and piano, Schubert Quartets, and Paganini Cappricios. He also recorded a remastered version of all 13 Mozart violin concertos with Foné.

From 2007 to today, Accardo has released several more albums with Foné, including a second recording of Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin by Bach, a third recording of the 24 Paganini Cappricios, and a third recording of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons (Urtext Edition) with the OCI.
He’s also released a boxed set titled The Art of Salvatore Accardo: a life for the violin, with Universal Records, an artistic picture of the Artist gathering some of the most famous pieces in violin literature from every age.
Edizioni Curci, a Milan‐based music publishing house, recently published, as part of a massive editorial project, Accardo’s revised editions of Mozart’s n. 3, 4 and 5 violin concertos, and will soon publish the other Mozart’s concerts, as well as Čajkovskij’s, Beethoven’s and Brahms’ ones.

Activities
His passion for chamber music and his interest in young people drove him to create the Accardo Quartet in 1992, and to begin holding master classes for string instruments in 1986 at the Walter Stauffer Foundation in Cremona with Bruno Giuranna, Rocco Filippini and Franco Petracchi. In 1971, he founded the International Music Weeks Festival in Naples, the first festival of its kind, along with the Cremona Music Festival, to be solely dedicated to string instruments, and to allow audience members to attend rehearsals.

At the end of 1996, Accardo succeeded in breathing life into the Orchestra da Camera Italiana, recruiting the best students and alumni from the Walter Stauffer Academy in Cremona to perform with him.
Salvatore Accardo plays a 1727 “Hart ex Francescatti” Stradivarius, a 1733 “Reade” Guarneri del Gesù, and a 1620 “Giorgio III” Giovanni Paolo Maggini.

Awards
At 15, he won the Geneva Competition and two years later, in 1958, he was the first winner of the newly founded Paganini Competition in Genova.

Over the course of his prestigious career, Salvatore Accardo has received numerous prizes, including the Abbiati Prize from the Italian Critics association for excellence in interpretation. In 1982 the President of the Republic at the time, Sandro Pertini, nominated him a Soldier of the Grand Cross, the highest honor in Italy. On the occasion of the OCI’s East Asian tour in 1996, Beijing Conservatory bestowed upon him the honor of “Most Honorable Professor.” In 1999 he received the “Commandeur dans l’ordre du mérit culturel” (Commander of the Order of Cultural Merit), the highest honor in Monaco. And in 2002 he received the prestigious prize “Una vita per la Musica” (A life for Music).

Repertoire
His vast repertoire includes everything from the Baroque to the contemporary and composers like Sciarrino, Donatoni, Piston, Piazzolla, and Xenakis have dedicated works to him.
