Aribert Reimann's Medea: Komische Oper Berlin

About the Event

Aribert Reimann's tragic opera has its Komische Oper Berlin premiere in a production by Benedict Andrews, with Nicole Chevalier in the title role.

Medea, daughter of the King of Colchis, leaves her home out of love for Jason. As a stranger in Corinth she is shunned by the people and in the end betrayed by the man she loved, so she devises a horrible plan.

German composer Aribert Reimann is known for his love for great characters. For this composition, Reimann used Grillparzer's rarely performed play, which portrays Medea as the defenseless stranger amidst a hostile society.
