Andris Nelsons, Pierre‐Laurent Aimard & Royal Concertgebouw: Beethoven, Scriabine, Dean

About the Event

Find out why the Latvian conductor Andris Nelsons — once referred to as ‘the new Karajan’- brings the house down in opera and concert halls alike.

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. They populate Brett Dean’s Dramatis Personae, a refreshing trumpet concerto, written by star trumpet player Håkan Hardenberger. The heroism of Prometheus who went to steal the fire of the gods, inspired Scriabin to write Prometheus, here with Pierre‐Laurant Aimard in a starring role. Prometheus also figures in Beethoven’s only music for ballet, in which we hear the germ for some of his symphonies. On 1 January 2020 Andris Nelsons will be conducting the New Year Concert of the Wiener Philharmoniker for the very first time. Just two weeks later he will be here, in BOZAR, to conduct the Concertgebouworkest.
