Andrea Chénier: Deutsche Oper Berlin

About the Event

Discover Umberto Giordano's rarely performed 'verismo' opera, 'Andrea Chénier', in John Dew's subtly powerful production at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, with Roberto Alagna in the title role.

Giordano's opera deals with the period of the French revolution, from its beginnings until Robespierre's regime of terror. History is explored through the love story of three young people, Madeleine, daughter of the Countess de Coigny, the poet Andrea Chénier and the prosecutor of the revolutionary tribunal Gérard.
Following the style of the 'verismo' Giordano did not only choose a historic topic for his opera, he also integrates historical music and melodies from the time before and during the French revolution.

Sung in Italian, with German and English surtitles.
