An Evening with Annette Dasch & Fauré Quartet: Konzerthaus Berlin

About the Event

Set your mind and heart free to think wistfully of the unrequited loves you have left behind. Renowned soprano Annette Dasch and the acclaimed Fauré Quartet offer music on this bittersweet theme from Wagner, Mahler, and Brahms — each composer familiar with the pangs of love unfulfilled.

Wagner's Wesendock Lieder, dedicated to the wife of his patron, are unmistakeably sensual in their lush harmonies. Indeed two of the songs later formed the basis for themes found in that immortal tale of love denied, 'Tristan and Isolde'. Brahms' C minor Piano Quartet makes ample musical reference to Clara Schumann, the love of the composer's life, as well as his friend and colleague. The poems — and loves — of the poems Mahler set in Des Knaben Wunderhorn are less specific, but what would lieder be without love lost, unreturned, or lightly discraded?
