Xian Zhang is one of the few internationally acclaimed female conductors, and also one of few Chinese conductors with an international reputation. She will conduct two famous American works – Gershwin’s Symphonic Picture Porgy and Bess and Ferde Grofé’s Grand Canyon Suite, as well as the traditional Chinese work The Defeated Emperor arranged by the Pulitzer‐prize‐winning Chinese‐American composer Zhou Long.

Jako nejstarší orchestr v Asii přinesl Šanghajský symfonický orchestr do Číny západní klasickou hudbu. Dodnes je orchestr světové úrovně, který přitahuje mezinárodně uznávané umělce a zároveň si zachovává svou čínskou podstatu: Šanghajský symfonický orchestr je majákem kultury a umění pro město Šanghaj.
