Vow to the Virgin: Music from the reign of Louis XIII at Versailles
O akci
Immerse yourself in sacred music composed during the reign of Louis XIII. Olivier Schneebeli conducts the Pages and Cantors of Versailles' Center for Baroque Music, and Les Temps Présents, amid the splendors of the palace's Royal Chapel.
Rumoured to have dedicated France to the Virgin Mary in gratitude for a long‐awaited heir, Louis XIII's court produced a wealth of religious music. The Languedoc Guillaume Bouzignac — sometimes referred to as the French Monteverdi — anticipated musical forms that would come to full fruition two generations later, while contemporaries such as Henri Frémart and Etienne Moulinié made full use of the resources available to them at court. Who better to explore this musical cornucopia than Versailles' own musicians.
