Midnight in Vienna: Rossini, Mozart and Beethoven
O akci
The Orchestre National d'Ile de France and clarinetist Raphael Severe perform selected works by Rossini, Mozart and Beethoven under the baton of Ainars Rubikis, at the Salle Gaveau in Paris.
Poor Cinderella, locked at home while her two sisters go to the ball … But Rossini, with his sparkling orchestra finally places the character under the spotlight. His vibrant melodies transform her into a princess. No music has ever better painted the dark to then set it aglow, bright and festive!
The Mozart Clarinet Concerto also oscillates between these two opposing worlds. The sublime middle movement of his Concerto in A major is the most beautiful page ever written for this instrument. The sobriety of the clarinet and the purity of its sound take us deep into the soul of the composer.
With Beethoven, the transition from light to dark takes a more grandiose turn: the masses of the orchestra and the vehement themes are there to remind us that it is contrast which now counts in the Romantic universe.
