Užijte si Verdiho Traviatu! Libreto Francesca Marii Piaveho vychází z románu a divadelní hry "La Dame aux Camelias" syna Alexandra Dumase. Oblíbená opera o třech dějstvích byla poprvé uvedena 6. března 1853 v benátském divadle La Fenice.
Po velmi úspěšné premiéře Rigoletta v La Fenice v březnu 1851 byl Verdi pověřen dodat pro tento dům operu, která měla být uvedena v březnu 1853. V zimě 1851/52 strávil nějaký čas v Paříži, kde zhlédl novou odvážnou hru Alexandra Dumase "La Dame aux Camelias". Verdi se však pro tento námět nerozhodl hned. Divadlo Verdiho donutilo opustit současné prostředí a přenést děj do roku 1700. To Verdiho nesmírně rozhořčilo, ale přijal to s úlevou, že libreto prošlo cenzurou poměrně rychle a s menšími problémy, než na jaké byl zvyklý v Benátkách.
Skoro by se zdálo, že charakteristickým znakem některých nejúspěšnějších a nejoblíbenějších oper je nepříliš příznivé — až katastrofální — přijetí premiéry. Tak tomu bylo i v případě Traviaty, když byla poprvé uvedena v La Fenice. Bylo to naprosté fiasko. Ale: Přesně o 14 měsíců později, 6. května 1854, opět v Benátkách, v Teatro San Benedetto, měla ohromný úspěch.

The 'Church of St. Paul within the Walls' was the first non-Catholic church built in Rome after Italy's unification. The church was built between 1873 and 1880 as an Anglican Basilica in the district of Castro Pretorio, Via Nazionale, Rome. Constructed in the Gothic Revival style, the distinctive external facade is characterised by alternating red and limestone bricks. Four spectacular mosaics by the English pre-Raphaelite Edward Burne-Jones, in collaboration with William Morris, are the crowning glory of the church's interior. The eagle-eyed will spot several famous nineteenth-century figures among those representing the fathers of the church in the elaborate mosaics, among them the artist himself, notable donors and their families, and Abraham Lincoln, Giuseppe Garibaldi and General Grant among the 'Christian Warriors'. Many delightful classical events are hosted in this location, including performances of popular operas like La Traviata.

The height of the ceiling made it difficult for the singers to project their voices. They could have done with a microphoned sound system. Otherwise good — very professional — except that the lead soprano tended sometimes to scream her top notes.
