Eglise Saint-Ephrem
Tento malý, malebný kostelík se nachází v odlehlém koutě historického pátého pařížského obvodu, známého také jako Latinská čtvrť, a je skutečným skrytým klenotem. Kostel byl postaven v roce 1733 v pravém korintském stylu a až do konce 19. století, kdy se stal centrem katolického sociálního hnutí založeného Robertem a Albertem de Mun, byl využíván různými řeholními řády. Interiér je klasicky vyzdoben působivou sbírkou obrazů. Kostel Saint-Ephrem je oblíbeným místem konání koncertů klasické hudby, neboť jeho útulná, intimní atmosféra a skvělá akustika přitahuje místní obyvatele i turisty.
Franz Schubert
Franz Schubert, jeden z otců hudebního romantismu, byl během svého poměrně krátkého života vždy nedoceněným géniem, kterému se nikdy nedostalo veřejného uznání. Jeho hudba těšila pouze rodinu a přátele a většina jeho děl byla objevena a vydána až mnoho let po jeho smrti. Franz Schubert se narodil 31. března 1797 na předměstí Vídně. Jeho otec a nejstarší bratr byli amatérští hudebníci a učili ho hrát na klavír a housle. V jedenácti letech Schubert zpíval ve sboru na faře v Lichtenthalu a později se zúčastnil konkurzu u Antonia Salieriho a byl přijat do císařského sboru. V tomto období začal mladý Franz komponovat vlastní skladby. Poté, co se mu zlomil hlas, však musel sbor opustit a v roce 1814 začal pracovat jako učitel ve stejné farní škole jako jeho otec. Nepřestával komponovat a o čtyři roky později se rozhodl s učitelstvím skončit a plně se věnovat hudbě. Kvůli tomu se rozešel s otcem a těžko vydělával na živobytí. V roce 1818 odešel Schubert do Vídně, kde se seznámil s Voglem. Společně pořádali soukromé koncerty v malých šlechtických kruzích, na kterých hráli především Lieder, kterých Schubert napsal kolem 600. V roce 1888 se Schubert stal členem skupiny. Franz Schubert za celý svůj život uspořádal pouze jeden velký veřejný koncert v březnu 1828, který byl publikem velmi vřele přijat. Jeho zdravotní stav se však zhoršoval a v listopadu téhož roku zemřel ve věku 31 let na horečku štítné žlázy.
Ludwig van Beethoven
Ludwig van Beethoven byl německý klavírista a skladatel konce 18. století. Je známý jako nejvlivnější skladatel všech dob a zásadní postava klasické hudby. Svůj hudební talent projevil již v útlém věku, kdy bral lekce od svého otce a skladatele a dirigenta Christiana Gottloba Neefeho. Později se přestěhoval do Vídně, kde si získal pověst virtuózního klavíristy komponováním svých populárních mistrovských děl. Svá nejobdivovanější díla vytvořil v posledních patnácti letech života, a to v době, kdy byl téměř úplně hluchý.
Frederic Chopin
Fryderyk Chopin byl polský skladatel a klavírista z období romantismu (počátek 19. století). Psal především klavírní sóla, ale také klavírní koncerty, komorní skladby a písně na polské texty. Je znám jako básnický génius, který nemá ve své generaci konkurenci. Vytvořil vlastně koncept instrumentální balady a jeho výkony se vyznačovaly citlivostí a jemným rozlišením. Většinu života strávil v Paříži, kde vystupoval pro intimní atmosféru salonů. Po většinu života trpěl chatrným zdravím. V důsledku toho zemřel poměrně mladý ve věku 39 let, pravděpodobně na tuberkulózu.

Gorgeous, setting to experience first rate classical music. The pianist was accomplished and expressive. The only suggestion would be to have access to the program selections in English. For non‐French speaking attendees, we did not always know what piece the pianist was performing.

I was disappointed with the Beethoven and Schubert offerings. Two of three movements were omitted in the Moonlight Sonata, and the Schubert Impromptus were similarly truncated. The Chopin pieces went well.

Je n’ai reconnu ni Chopin, ni Satie. J’ai eu l’impression que le pianiste changeait de tempo à contre‐temps. Ses mains étaient d’une lourdeur insensée pour les compositeurs choisis. Moi je n’ai tenu qu’une demie heure et suis sorti en me demandant si l’interprète était dans son état normal. Mes invités sont restés jusqu’à la fin. Ils m’ont dit que le plus massacré avait été Schubert et m’ont rapporté que le pianiste avait fait à la fin du racolage en offrant ses services de professeur pour les débutants ou pour les non débutant ou même pour les confirmés…. Un désastre !

Adrien Polycarpe was fantastic‐ he introduced each composition that he was playing. he plays with such skill and each note struck with such clarity. would love to listen to another of his concerts‐ I am a huge fan of Chopin so I am doubly happy he played many of his nocturnes and waltzes (including one prelude)

Small church filled with a packed house. Candles in the corners in candelabras, quiet, intimate. Pianist was superb. Memorable evening. Would definitely do again.
