Christie & Les Arts Florissants: Rameau & Mondonville

演出简介

To commemorate the 250th anniversary of Rameau’s death (1683‐1764), Les Arts florissants have chosen two of the composer’s most beautiful sacred works. The motet Quam dilecta, taken from Psalm 83, never ceases to surprise and move audiences with the finesse of its pointillistic instrumentation and its magnificent counterpoint. In convertendo Dominus opens with a dolorous evocation of the captivity of the Jews in Babylon, painted in the melodic vocal line with sinuous ornaments resembling so many sighs or lamentations. Two motets by Mondonville will follow those of Rameau. Excelling at the art of sonorous painting, Mondonville created an unforgettable tempest of vocalises in Dominus regnavit. In exitu Israel ends the program with waves of sixteenth notes that undulate like the Red Sea.
