Ballet Evening 2014: Petrushka & Symbiont(s)

演出简介

Stravinsky's puppet‐show ballet mixes Italian and Russian influences for a thrilling result.

The ballet tells the story of Petrushka, who lives in a travelling puppet theatre and falls in love with the Ballerina doll. The Ballerina pays no attention to the clown, as she is infatuated with the Moor living in the same theatre. The jealous Petrushka tries to attack the Moor, but the Moor is stronger than the little clown and kills him. Petrushka’s ghost rises up to the roof of the puppet theatre and looks down on the confusion: the audience no longer knows who is a puppet and who is a human. Mai Murdmaa, who celebrated her 75th birthday in 2013, gives us her vision of the renowned ballet.

Furthermore, Wayne McGregor's ballet 'Symbiont(s)' — originially staged for the Royal Ballet London — will also be performed on the program.
