The Scuola Grande di San Teodoro is one of eight "Scuole Grande" in Venice. It was founded in 1258 when the confraternity decided to settle in the San Salvador church, obtaining, as the other Scuole, the permitto utilize a lateral nave and some rooms of the monastery. The Scuola Grande di San Teodoro during its history had so many followers that finally in 1551 it received the permit to utilize a building in front of the church San Salvador. After one year the appellative name "Grande" was given to the Scuola.
At the beginning of 17. century the internal stairs were built and in 1655 Giuseppe Sardi was charged to build the marble facade. In the 19. century the Scuola Grande di San Teodoro was robbed of its best works but the building remained almost original. In 1960 San Teodoro was reconstituted and nowadays the building is used for cultural events.
