Spitalfields Festival: The Sixteen, Monteverdi Revisited
Harry Christophers directs the highly acclaimed ensemble, The Sixteen, in a performance of music by Claudio Monteverdi at Christ Church in London, during this year's Spitalfields Summer Festival.
‘Monteverdi’s "Selva morale e spirituale" of 1641 was the first collection of his sacred music to be published since his 1610 Vespers. He was well into his 70s and this amazing publication gives us an incredibly diverse retrospective view of his work. His music sounds as modern today as it must have done then and, in these programmes, we have the opportunity to experience an extension of Monteverdi’s inventiveness and spontaneity.’ Harry Christophers
