Jos van Immerseel conducts Beethoven's First Piano Concerto from the pianoforte. More Romantic than the classicists and more classical than the Romantics, the precocious young Mendelssohn returned from Italy with the feeling that he had discovered a place that "hands out happiness", and it is indeed happiness that infuses his light Fourth Symphony.
