Music Festival Grafenegg: Gerhaher, Blomstedt, Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra

Masterpieces by the young Mahler and the aged Bruckner are performed by the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, already well-known in Grafenegg, under the direction of celebrated conductor Herbert Blomstedt, with soloist Christian Gerhaher.

A reviewer once referred to baritone Christian Gerhaher’s interpretation of the "Songs of a Wayfarer" as "perfectly outlined, cultivated notes with a light, quiet treble".

Mahler’s bold harmonies go back, among others, to late works by Anton Bruckner, who anticipated essential aspects of the 20th century in his final, unfinished symphony.
