Shostakovich & Rachmaninov: Orchestral Music Series

Lo spettacolo

Led by Maestro Robertas Šervenikas, an ardent Lithuanian music advocate, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra performs Unfinished Symphony by Algirdas Martinaitis and works by Shostakovich and Rachmaninov with soloist Dalia Kuznecovaite.

Martinaitis' Unfinished Symphony can be described as an instrumental drama alluding to music of past centuries, for, according to the composer, “the opening intonations come from Richard Wagner”, “also, there is some of Mozart, as well as Nordic slowness of Sibelius’ Waltz Triste (1920).

After intermission the audience will be presented with the Russian symphonic music – Rachmaninov’s Third Symphony breathing with longing and wide melodies as a description of immense vastness and beauty of Russia’s landscape, and Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto saturated with wit and candid irony. Tonight’s soloist – Dalia Kuznecovaitė, winner of first prize and gold medal at the prestigious H. Szeryng Competition in Mexico (2008), currently studies at the Rostock Academy of Music and Drama.

The Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society welcomes symphonic music lovers to the Orchestral Music Series in Vilnius.
