La Fortezza di Hohensalzburg, costruita nel 1077 dall'arcivescovo Gebhard, è la più grande fortezza interamente conservata in Europa centrale. I suoi interni sono finemente decorati: complessi intarsi su legno in stile gotico e dipinti ornamenali decorano la Sala Dorata e la Camera Dorata.

La fortezza è oggi aperta al pubblico tutto l'anno e artisti da tutto il mondo si incontrano qui per i corsi dell'Accademia Internazionale Estiva.

Come arrivare

The Fortress is accessed from Kapitelplatz through the Festungsgasse; visitors can choose between the funicular, departing every 10 minutes, or taking a 30-minute walk to the top.
