On May 8th, the first Leipzig Opera House was opened by the Dresdner violinist and Hof-Vizekapellmeister Nikolaus Adam Strungk at the Leipziger Brühl. From 1701 his successors included Georg Philipp Telemann, as a composer and as the conductor of the Collegium Musicum, which was established by him and was subsequently run by Johann Sebastian Bach.
