The Budapest Spring Festival 2010 presents a concert by folk and fusion singer Bea Palya.
“The idea of old time melodies came to me at last year’s pop song festival. I sang the first lines of the songs in taxis, for friends, at family gatherings and everyone started singing them right away; it was especially good to see how strongly my parents responded to some of the songs. And as I experienced the nostalgic retro mood I could also see that these melodies are urban folk music: they are well known songs that people can sing together, but everyone hears their own story in them. So I began to experiment boldly and play with the melodies, I looked at how they apply to me and how I can fill them with content. I worked on this with the composer Samu Gryllus. In most cases the sound evokes folk music, but as you can hear in the final result, many other kinds of music influenced us too. We will play familiar old songs in our own style.” (Bea Palya)
