The musical influence of Olivier Messiaen will be evident in the first performance of the evening as Thierry Eschaich performs his composition for organ and orchestra, "La Barque Solaire", with the Konzerthaus Orchestra.

The key to the music of César Franck may be found in his personality. His friends record that he was a man of utmost humility, simplicity, reverence and industry. Much of Franck's music is deeply serious and reverential in mood, often joyful, passionate or mysterious, but almost never light-hearted or humorous.
