Since its opening in the year 1913 the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées belongs to the concert and opera houses which are recognized world-wide. For more than ninety years, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées has been host to performances by some of the most prestigious artists in the history of music, opéra and dance: Conductors and composers such as Karl Böhm, Benjamin Britten, Pierre Boulez, William Christie, Claude Debussy, Wilhelm Furtwängler, Carlo Maria Guilini, D.E. Engelbrecht, Herbert von Karajan, Kurt Masur, Pierre Monteux, Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa, Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Georg Solti, Arturo Toscanini and Bruno Walter have led some of the world’s most illustrious singers such as Maria Callas, Cecilia Bartoli, Luciano Pavarotti, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf or Jessy Norman. The Théâtre des Champs-Élysées has also produced Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, The Ballets Suédois and performances by the New York City Ballet, Balanchine, Roland Petit, Sylvie Guillem, Maurice Béjart, the Bolshoi and Kirov ballets.

A Gabriel Astruc-project, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées was built in 1913 by the Perret Brothers. The sculptor Antoine Bourdelle and the painter Maurice Denis contributed to the theater’s magnificient interior. The inauguration of the theater, however, is best remerbered for its “scandalous” production of Stravinsky’s Sacre du printemps with Nijinsky. In 1957 the building was classified an historical monument.

With its splendourful concert hall, its gorgeously decorated reception hall and its history, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées offers an exclusive atmosphere to enjoy an extraordinary performance.
