London Mozart Players & Thomas Carroll
A PROPOS DU SPECTACLE
Works of Beethoven and Haydn will be performed by the London Mozart Players and Thomas Carroll under the baton of Owain Arwel Hughes.
Some compositions have defined music history, and Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony is one of them. It marked a turning point in symphonic writing and set the bar for symphonic composition. The piece also reflects history, as Beethoven originally gave it the title “Bonaparte” as a tribute to Napoleon, whom he admired. On hearing that Napoleon had been made Emperor of France, however, the composer changed his mind, and scribbled out the dedication so fiercely that he made a hole in the front of the score. This dramatic work is preceded by Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C, performed by Thomas Carroll, a finalist of the BBC’s Young Musician of the Year competition.
Before this concert at 6.15pm a Pre-Concert Conversation will take place. Free for concert ticket holders.
