A PROPOS DU SPECTACLE

The Budafest Summer Music Festival presents traditional Klezmer, Folk and Jazz Music, as well as famous operas, this year at the Hilton Dominican Court and the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest.

Domenico Cimarosa: Il meastro di Capella (Intermezzo giososo)

The name “intermezzo” originates from Cimorosa’s time, the age of the carnival, and it refers to the music played during the interval. This short opera is essentially an aria with long orchestral pauses.

In the role of the conductor: János Tóth, with the “Art” Symphony Orchestra.

Domenico Cimarosa (1749–1801) was a prominent Italian composer of the second half of 18th century. He wrote as many as 60 operas, one after another. Most of these operas are waiting to be re-discovered in theatres, as only a few are currently in the repertoire of opera houses. "Il maestro di capella" is not a true opera; it is considered to be an intermezzo, a light refreshment in the intervals of grand heavy operas. There is no complex plot; it is about a rehearsal with the conductor, a witty libretto with uniform music.
