Die Frau ohne Schatten by Richard Strauss will be performed at the Oper Leipzig this season.
In order to save her husband the Empress has to obtain a shadow, in order to become fully human. She intends to strike a bargain with the dyer's wife to acquire a shadow and the ability to bear children which comes with it. When she finds out that this bargain would put the dyer and his wife's love in jeopardy she reconsiders and thus reveals her humanity.
