Gewandhaus zu Leipzig

The Festival and the International Auditions is dedicated to the house-god of romantic music in Leipzig: Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.

Leipzig is the city, where the Mendelssohn-family cultivated a rich musical live. Many famous persons were guests, for example Robert Schumann, Clara Wieck, Franz Liszt, also Richard Wagner, musicians of the Gewandhaus orchestra, teachers of the Leipzig university, of the conservatory - all representatives of the progressive bourgeoisie in Leipzig.
