The Seasons

Haydn's oratorio "The Seasons" will be performed by various great soloists, the Orfeo Orchestra and the Purcell Choir at the Budapest Spring Festival.

Haydn wrote over two years on this composition after his successful oratorio "The Creation". Both oratorios are based on Händel's model instead of the traditional Italian oratorio. In "The Seasons", Haydn has immersed late Baroque music, the emerging Romanticism, right up to the art of Wagner and was an enormous success when premiered in 1801!
